For any corporation adopting an e-business model, preventing
unwanted content from entering its network through the Internet,
email, and the Web is essential. Organizations can use content-security
technologies to address internal security risks associated with
misuse of the Web through the use of instant messaging or email
applications. This control has become all the more important
because now legal liability, policy enforcement, and regulatory
compliance are increasingly driving the need to scan email and
instant messages. One should also scan Web traffic for any confidential
data, inappropriate content, intellectual property issues, or
unsolicited emails that might cause virus infections.
